Following in Abba’s Footsteps

Little girl was sitting on Abba’s lap one morning when he said to her, “Would you like to go on a walk so that I can show you some things?”

Little girl jumped up immediately, excited to see some things and to take a walk with Abba. They walked down the steps from the porch area towards the grassy rolling hills that little girl had begun to love. She tried to follow right in his footsteps because this seemed like fun to her.

When Abba and little girl got to the second tree on the path that towered over them, he stopped and turned to her. “Do you know how old this tree is?”

“No, but I bet it’s really old,” little girl answered.

“It’s really old, little girl. I remember when we planted it ages ago,” Abba recalled as he thought about that day so long ago.

“Wow, that’s neat! I thought the tree was even older than you,” little girl stated inquisitively. “I thought trees were hundreds of years old sometimes.”

“They are, sometimes,” Abba responded with a twinkle in his eye as he continued to walk.

Little girl continued right after him again. She watched as he took every step and tried to step exactly where he stepped. Abba looked back at her as she did this and delighted in this child of his.

Abba’s Words

As little girl spent time with Abba, she began to feel different. She had found so much hope and life and joy in her heart. She was so thankful to be a part of Abba’s family. She couldn’t remember how life had been before.

Little girl loved to sit in Abba’s lap and look out at the green hills and the sea beyond them. She loved watching the animals and butterflies every morning with Abba. She loved talking to him and sharing with him.

As little girl felt more at home and safer with Abba, her heart settled more and more. She felt less anxious day by day. She didn’t worry as much.

Little girl became more and more settled in her identity as Abba’s child. As this happened, his words and talks with her began to be her favorite things. More than the beautiful hills and the sea, the fun animals and the butterflies, and even more than sharing her own thoughts with Abba, little girl loved hearing Abba’s words.

Abba’s words felt tangible to her. They felt real and strong and safe. She didn’t know quite how to describe this, but she knew that every time he spoke to her she felt safer and more like his daughter and she knew everything would be okay.

Asking Abba

Little girl sat on Abba’s lap. She had been thinking about so many things in the last few days and she decided she needed to ask Abba some questions.

“Abba, thank you for adopting me. I’m so happy to be yours but I wonder why you picked me. Can we go get some of my friends where I stayed? I think they wanted to be picked by you too. I miss them and they need you too!” Little girl surprised herself with her request.

Abba smiled with delight at the little girl’s thoughts and desire for her little friends to know him, “I love you, little girl. I’m so happy you came to me. You’re a wonderful daughter. I’d love to go and get some of your friends. I know them. I know their needs. I love them, little girl. Did you know that? I love them too even though they are aren’t here with us yet.”

Little girl thought about this for a minute. She was so happy Abba cared about and loved her friends too. “Okay, Abba. Will it be long?” She asked with anticipation.

“Not long, little girl. Not long at all,” Abba replied.

Little girl felt better. She had made her simple request known and trusted Abba that they would go get her friends soon.
