Much More Than Enough

“Abba, why don’t you get upset with me and punish me when I make a mistake? Why don’t you get angry and impatient with me when I’m slow to come to you?”

Little girl had gone over these thoughts and questions in her mind and heart time and time again. Abba responded to her so differently than the other fathers and mothers in her life had responded to her. Abba was never impatient with her. He was so different than the rest.

Finally, little girl felt compelled to ask him, and so she did.

Abba came down to little girl’s level and locked eyes with her, “Why would I get upset and angry with you? Why would I be impatient with you when I know you want to come straight to me yet you’re afraid? Why would I punish you when you’re just a child wanting to trust in my love for you? I have plenty of time, and plenty of patience, and plenty of love for you. Always remember this.”

With that, Abba picked little girl up and held her tight. He carried her again, like he said he would.

Abba’s voice wasn’t loud but little girl heard every word perfectly. Her soul rested in his love. Whenever she heard Abba’s voice she felt the peace she had come to experience.

Little girl loved hearing Abba speak her name. Abba loved to talk to little girl and share secrets with her. Other times little girl just sat on Abba’s lap in silence. These were some of her favorite times.

Little girl rested in hearing Abba’s voice and she rested when he was quiet. She had found what she had always been looking for. Her life was different because she had been adopted into Abba’s family. She took him at his word and believed in his goodness.

Abba’s Princess

Little girl became accustomed to wearing the new garments Abba had given her. She dressed like a princess because she was Abba’s daughter. Abba had adopted little girl some time ago and she needed to be reminded of this at times.

Time and again, a storm would brew over little girl’s mind and heart and she would face the accusations that she had long since overcome. She knew she was adopted and loved by Abba, yet sometimes her heart momentarily forgot all the wonderful things he had done for her and how he had set her free.

Abba knew little girl so well. He knew the battles she fought and he picked her up and carried her like he’d promised he would do. Abba never forgot his promises to little girl.

Garments for a Princess

Abba taught little girl to walk one small step at a time. He taught her and he stayed with her through the difficulties. Little girl was never alone. Abba was her safety and he reminded her time and time again of all the beautiful things he had for her life.

One day he told her he wanted to give her a new wardrobe in exchange for her garments. Abba told little girl that she was a princess and that he was going to give her dresses and outfits worthy of a princess.

Little girl was so excited about this. She loved the beautiful dresses that princesses wore. She could hardly believe how kind Abba was and how wonderful her life had become.

Step by Step

Step by Step

“One small step at a time, my sweet girl,” I heard Abba’s voice like a whisper that resonated in every part of me. I heard his voice drawing me. It felt like I was waking from a dream.

His voice brought clarity and light to my soul and I knew I could trust Abba. I knew I could do what he was asking and I was so thankful for this. Abba had taught me how to follow him and he had convinced me I could trust him. I was so thankful for all he’d done for me and how he had led me step by step by step.

Just Walk

Walk

“Come on, sweet girl,” I heard Abba’s soothing voice as He picked me up off the ground, wiping the dust and gravel off of me, “You’ll be okay. Just walk. Just take one step at a time and follow after me. You can do it!”

I was confused at what had happened and why I had been on the ground in the first place. I couldn’t remember what had happened. I felt slightly out of sorts and my eyes seemed to burn just a little but I chose to focus on Abba’s voice.

I chose to listen to him as he encouraged me. He knew what had happened and what was next. He knew exactly what I needed and how to best take care of me. He told me to walk one step at a time and so that I would do.
