Missing Jacob

Abba looked down at little girl while she twirled her long light brown locks. Little girl was thinking intently about something as she wrapped one piece of hair after another around her finger, staring at the ground as she did.

“Little girl, what are you thinking about?”

Little girl looked up at Abba a bit startled, having almost forgotten he was right there the whole time.

“I’m just missing some of my friends and brothers and sisters from before,” little girl said with an unsettled look on her face.

Little girl began to apologize to Abba for feeling sad when he interrupted her and picked her up, “I understand, little girl. I understand missing friends and family.” Abba looked at little girl as he said this and she saw something in his eyes she had never seen before. It was only for a moment but little girl saw a glimpse of the very emotions she had been feeling. She saw sadness somewhere deep inside Abba’s eyes.

Little girl wondered about this. Her curiosity was stirred, “Abba, are you sad?”

“I miss my family too. I miss my children so much.”

“Where are you other children? I have brothers and sisters?! How many other children do you have, Abba? Who are they? Where did they go?” Little girl asked excitedly but with concern. She was excited to have more brothers and sisters but she wondered why they weren’t at Abba’s house with her.

“Little girl, that’s a long story. I’ll share with you sometime soon about Jacob and his father Isaac and his grandfather Abraham. I’ll share with you about my son Israel,” Abba answered with a glint of hope in his eyes and joy in his voice. Little girl could see the love Abba had for these other children when he spoke of them.

“Please tell me, Abba. Please tell me about your other children that you miss. I want to know about my brothers and sisters. I want them to come home so I can meet them and play with them too,” little girl’s excitement and anticipation about this newfound understanding overtook the sadness she had felt just moments before.

“I’ll tell you about them soon, little girl, very soon.”

A New Adventure

It’s been quite some time since Abba and little girl shared their adventures. Time passes so quickly yet there is so much to tell. Day by day little girl finds life with Abba wonderful and easier than she ever thought possible.

Abba and little girl took a long adventure to foreign lands. Abba had waited patiently for the right time to bring little girl on this first trip of many. Abba loved little girl so much. He loved her for exactly who she was and he loved her for wanting to be with him and simply follow him wherever he went. He knew the time was right to take little girl on a journey of many to come.

Abba wanted to show little girl his family and where he came from. He wanted little girl to understand his family better since it was now her family too. He knew little girl loved him and he knew she would love his family too.

This was the beginning of a new adventure with little girl and Abba.

Never Forget

I am joining with katemotaung.com for Five Minute Friday. The goal is to write for five minutes about a word. No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.

The prompt is:

Forget

Former Dachau Concentration Camp

Former Dachau Concentration Camp

G-d commands us to remember, to remember His goodness and what He has done for us. He asks us to remember. We must remember His faithfulness and lovingkindness in the difficulty and in the storms, in the trials and in the testings. We cannot forget that He is G-d and He is good.

Yesterday I visited former Dachau concentration camp in Dachau, Germany. Never Forget and Never Again are two of the most spoken exhortations related to the Holocaust. Humanity cannot forget what happened. Israel must not forget that G-d has not forgotten Israel. The G-d of Israel is still alive and His kindness is still towards His people, the people He called after Himself.

Never forget – we must never forget the atrocities that happened that we would never stand by silently. We must never stand in silence in the face of anti-Semitism and injustice. We must never forget G-d’s kindness towards us in drawing us near to Himself. We must remember He is the G-d of Israel and there is no other.

Today’s prompt is:
Alone
alone-600x600

You are Always With Me

Alone is without anyone
Walking, living and being without another
on this journey of life
or just for a moment

Sometimes alone feels lacking
Other times alone feels safe
Yet in reality
I am never alone
because You are always with me
You never leave nor forsake me

Whether I feel alone or not
I am never alone
I am not forsaken
I am not forgotten

This is all I really need to know
This is all Israel really needs to know

We are never alone
You are always with us
You are watching over us
and loving us all the time

No matter how alone we feel
We are not
We are never ever alone

You are always with us

the living hope of the living G-d

Hope

hope-600x600 - Version 2

the living hope of the living G-d

IMG_6497_2

Sometimes we think G-d is not like us. We think He is unfeeling and uncaring and far away from our anguish, far away from comprehending our deepest joys. Yet this is not true. This is not who He is. He is filled with affection and emotion. He created us in His image to feel and live fully and love deeply. He is not aloof and arrogant. He is not expectantly waiting for us to fail so that He can show us how pathetic we are. This is not G-d. He doesn’t look upon the suffering of His people and turn His love away. He isn’t mean like man. He doesn’t lie nor change who He is. His words stand and His decrees are written in eternity.

There is living hope deep within the heart of G-d for a people He created for Himself, a people He called His firstborn Son, a people He put His name upon forever, His people Israel. The Holy One of Israel aches for His people. He knows their history. He remembers their days of rejoicing. He holds in His heart their days of suffering. He has not forgotten. He continually remembers the plight and experience of His people. He suffered with them. In the fullness of time, they will comprehend that He was with them.

It beseeches all who live for and believe in the one G-d to lay hold of the heart of G-d for His people Israel. As the nations rage against the people of Israel once again, lay hold of His heart. Take courage and learn to stand with Him. Lay hold of His heart and love whom He loves. To the Jew first, then to the Gentile.

Only One Good

I am joining with Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. The goal is to write for five minutes about a word. No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.

Today’s prompt is:

Good

FMF-good--600x600

Only One Good

Not one good, except G-d
You alone are good
You alone are worthy
You alone are holy

No matter how hard I try to be good
No matter how hard I try to save myself
No matter how strong I think I am

I fall back on You
And everything makes sense again

There is no one good
There is only You
You alone are good
You alone are G-d
One G-d
One King
One Ruler

No matter what the rulers and kings say
You are the Master of the universe
You are the Holy One of Israel

No matter what theologians say
No matter what philosophers attempt to articulate
You stand
You watch
You wait
You ache
That a broken heart
would turn towards You
A wandering eye
would finally look for You

No matter how proud and arrogant men may be
You stand
You watch
You wait
You ache
That they would fall on their faces
and run into You

You are good
Your ways are good
None,
No, not one compares with You
Beautiful G-d
Beautiful Creator
