Abba’s Delight

I am joining with katemotaung.com for Five Minute Friday. The goal is to write for five minutes about a word. No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.

The prompt is:

Alive

Abba picked little girl up and spun her around. Little girl loved being spun around by Abba. Abba was so happy today. Abba loved little girl so much and was so glad that she was his.

“Little girl, do you have any idea how much I love you?!” Abba exclaimed. “It’s wonderful having you in the family! You will always be my daughter.”

Little girl’s heart drank these words in as if they were water quenching a deep thirst on a very hot day. As she received his words and his affection, her heart came alive afresh.

Abba’s words were so much more than just words. His words were like power and life and love and joy and so many good and wonderful things. Abba’s words sunk deep inside little girl’s being. She basked in his words and just being with him. Little girl was so glad to be Abba’s daughter.

An Adventure with Abba

Little girl came and found Abba a little bit earlier than usual. She was excited about their day together. Abba had told little girl that they would be going on an adventure. She couldn’t wait to find out what they were going to do.

“Abba, what are we going to do today? I’m so excited,” exclaimed little girl.

“We’re going on an adventure that will help you understand how much I really love you,” Abba replied.

Little girl looked at him with inquisitive eyes. She couldn’t imagine what their adventure was going to be but she trusted him so she grabbed his hand to go wherever he went.

Abba looked down at little girl with those eyes filled with fire and life. His pleasure in her was so far beyond her understanding. Abba loved little girl so much.

Abba loved the journey day after day with little girl and he loved the way she trusted him. Despite everything, she trusted him and she was learning to trust him more and more every single day.

Abba comprehended why this was sometimes difficult for little girl but he had patience with her and knew she would fully overcome her fears one day. He knew that she would comprehend and walk in the perfect love that he had for her one day soon.

Day 16: Green

Little girl saw the butterfly through the picture window. She quickly raced outside to try and catch it. She wanted to catch a butterfly. She had come so close over and over again.

She barreled outside, running as fast as she could over the freshly mowed green grass. When she got close to where the butterfly had been sitting on a leaf, she slowed down and began to tiptoe towards the branch. She looked up and the butterfly was still there. She was so surprised she didn’t know what to do. She had forgotten her butterfly catcher in the house.

She stopped and simply stared at the beautiful teal-colored butterfly. It didn’t move an inch. In the distance she heard Abba coming towards her. She wouldn’t turn around to look at him for fear the butterfly would fly away.

Abba approached and as he did, the butterfly left the leaf. Little girl thought the butterfly was afraid yet this was not the case. The butterfly flew right up to Abba and landed on his shoulder. Little girl’s mouth was wide open, amazed and delighted at what had just happened.

Abba put his hand by his shoulder and the butterfly flew and sat right on his finger. Then Abba put his hand by little girl’s shoulder and the butterfly flew and landed on her shoulder. Little girl knew the butterfly was there and just stood still nearly holding her breath. She was so ecstatic.

In a moment the butterfly flew back to the leaf where it had started. Little girl was beyond overwhelmed. She sat down just below the leaf trying to catch her breath and take it all in. What a day it had been!

Day 9: Trust

Little girl heard someone say the word. Trust. It had been one of little girl’s most challenging words. The word itself wasn’t so difficult but the idea of it was. She pondered for a moment when Abba came up to her and took her hand.

In a flash, she remembered what had happened just yesterday: Abba had adopted her into his family! She was ecstatic when she thought about this. She turned her head to look up at Abba with her big brown eyes. “Abba, I love you,” she said. When he looked down at her, his love for her touched her heart again. “I love you too!” he said.

With this exchange, little girl realized she finally knew what trust was and that it was wonderful. She trusted Abba because he loved her so and she knew it. She felt it deep inside and she knew he was trustworthy.

Day by day, as little girl experienced Abba’s love, her heart learned to trust. She became trustworthy. Everything inside little girl was being made new. She was so thankful. She told Abba many times every day how thankful she was. He loved it when she did. Abba loved little girl.

Day 7: Love

Little girl followed Abba around everywhere he went. She didn’t want to miss a thing. She felt so safe and so accepted by him. She knew Abba loved her and would always help her. This was a new and different experience for little girl.

Little girl’s life had been very different from her hour-by-hour, day-by-day experiences with Abba. She had never felt so safe and loved and accepted in all of her life but now she did. The more time she spent with him the less she remembered the difficult things she had experienced before.

Little girl would sometimes try so hard to remember her life before she found Abba and her memory was foggy. She could remember places and people but she couldn’t recall the difficult emotions she had experienced. It was as if Abba’s love wiped the darkness away.

Little girl was so thankful for Abba’s love for her. She was so thankful how he showed his love for her over and over again to ensure she knew it was real. He gave her a home and he gave her a family and he called her his own. The story continues.

Day 5: Home

Little girl finally turned around and looked up at Abba. She began to ask him if she could stay in his lap a little bit longer but when she looked at him she couldn’t say a word. She just stared at him. His eyes were filled with light and the kindness in his eyes went deep into her heart.

She never ever believed she would feel so safe but she did. She felt completely safe with him. She forgot every reason to not feel safe when she sat with him. She wasn’t anxious. She was filled with life and felt so loved. She never wanted to leave. She finally found her home.

She had been told she was home in nearly every place she had stayed. She learned not to believe it. She would listen quietly and remember to not get attached to any place or any people where she stayed.

She felt like everything was turning around in her whole life. She felt like she was finally home. She felt at home. She didn’t know how to describe it but she knew she was safe and she knew this was what she’d always wanted.

Day 4: Embrace

Little girl had fallen fast asleep in Abba’s embrace. She had such a wonderful dream about the family she finally got to be a part of and Abba and following him around everywhere.

She had loved the dream so much that when she began to wake up she wasn’t sure if she wanted to wake up. She wondered for a moment if everything that she remembered had actually happened. As the question passed through her mind, she felt Abba’s embrace. She knew it was all real because she was still sitting in Abba’s lap.

She was sitting in Abba’s lap and she knew it was safest place in the whole world.

She was so excited to look at him and talk to him, but she waited and pretended to be asleep because she never wanted to leave Abba’s embrace. Abba knew she was pretending but waited patiently. He knew she hadn’t felt rested and safe in a long, long time.

Abba was in no hurry. He loved to care for this little one. He loved to care for all of his kids.
