Nothing to Lose

father-daughter - Version 2

Lose

“Nothing to lose, nothing to lose, nothing to lose,” little girl said this phrase over and over with determination, clenched fists and a resolve in her face as she walked up and down the little porch.

“What are you talking about, little girl?” asked Abba with a smile on his face as he watched her. He loved this child so much. He loved everything about her. He especially loved her fiery determination.

“Someone keeps telling me if I trust you I will lose myself and that I shouldn’t trust you so much. But I know it’s not true. I know I have nothing to lose with you because you’re my good Abba,” little girl said with confidence and conviction.

Little girl had never seen Abba so proud of her. She felt his delight in her as he smiled, “I love you, little girl. You’ve done so well. You’ve grown up so much and I’m so proud of you.”

As Abba finished speaking he picked little girl up and spun her around. Little girl laughed and her faced radiated with joy. She loved it when Abba picked her up and held her up high. Even more, she loved it so when she made Abba’s heart happy.

Joy in Abba’s Love

Little girl sat in Abba’s lap, as was her morning routine. As she sat there, she began thinking about all Abba had done for her. As she thought about it, her face radiated with a smile that reflected the joy in little girl’s heart.

When she wasn’t sure if she’d ever have a home and a family, Abba had brought her to his home to be a part of his family.

When she wasn’t sure who would take care of her every day, Abba lavished her with kindness and love beyond what she could have ever expected, hoped for or imagined. Abba’s love was tangible to little girl’s heart and it settled her and brought her deep joy and life.

When little girl had moments of doubt about whether Abba was really committed to her or not, he affirmed his commitment to her by adopting her.

Little girl was so filled with joy at all the wonderful things that Abba had done in her life that she couldn’t contain herself. She turned around, beaming with delight and looked right into Abba’s eyes filled with love. “Thank you Abba! I love you so much!” little girl exclaimed and then hugged him tight. He was overjoyed in her joy.

Day 23: Joy

Little girl had some wonderful conversations with Abba. Abba comprehended her so well. She was overjoyed as they talked about the waves and the ocean and her excitement and fears.

Little girl was more undone by Abba every day. She was so thankful for him and for his heart of love for her. He loved her so and she knew it. She knew she was his daughter.

Little girl thought about how much she was like Abba. This thought gave her so much joy. She felt so thankful to be filled with so much life and so much love. She knew it was because of Abba. She knew she would not be here without him.

Little girl thought about all of this as she lay on her bed about to fall asleep. She was so content. She was so thankful. She was so filled with delight and she knew it was all because of Abba.

Day 15: Laugh

Little girl remembered her flying dreams and then began to recall other dreams she’d had over her few short years. She always recalled her dreams as if they were reality.

Little girl remembered the dream where she was riding a bicycle upside down. She had laughed and laughed in her dream and then she woke up laughing.

As little girl recalled this she began to laugh again. She thought this had been so much fun. Little girl’s dreams had been so full of adventure.

Little girl ran to find Abba and asked if she could share her dreams with him. Abba was glad to hear. He listened intently as she shared.

Little girl asked Abba, “Do you think I will be able to fly like a little bird someday? I think that would be really fun!”

Abba loved seeing such joy and delight in little girl as she talked to him and shared her heart. Then Abba answered, “Maybe you’ll get to fly like a little bird.” He winked at her as she thought about all the possibilities.

Day 8: Purple

He loved her so much. She loved him too. He was so good to her, so kind to her. Little girl loved her Abba and her new family.

Little girl had always dreamed of being a princess and someone’s daughter. She pictured herself wearing a beautiful gown of purple with a tiara that fit her perfectly. She imagined her beautiful castle, but even more she always imagined her wonderful family.

Abba knew little girl’s heart’s desires. He surprised her with the purple gown of her dreams and a tiara as well one morning. It was the morning of her adoption.

Little girl loved her new beautiful purple gown. She couldn’t wait for everyone to see her wonderful Abba. As they got ready to go to the adoption ceremony, he took her hand in his and they walked together. This was the day she’d always been waiting for: the day of her adoption. The day she officially became a daughter of the king.
