trustworthy Abba

I am joining with Kate Motaung for Five Minute Friday. The goal is to write for five minutes about a word. No extreme editing; no worrying about perfect grammar, font, or punctuation. Unscripted. Unedited. Real.

Today’s Prompt:

Take a moment
Ask Abba
What are You turning me towards
and what are You turning me away from?

Simple questions
waiting on
Simple answers
from a good, good Father

When we come like a child, there is no fear
When we come as little ones, there is nothing to be afraid of
Shame and condemnation flee far, far away from me
when I come with childlike trust, believing He is good

When He asks me to turn away from something,
it is because He always has my good in mind
He doesn’t desire to withhold from me
He only desires to give to me extravagantly

We can ask without fear
that He lead us and guide us
and trust He will do it
He will only lead us into that which is our good
and is for our best
that we might know Him more and more
that we might love him
and trust the goodness of His heart towards us

Take us deeper into Your heart, Abba
Bring us closer to You, Father
Turn us towards that which You desire for us
Turn us away from that which keeps us from You

What a wonderful Abba, what a wonderful G-d

Today’s Prompt: Adjust

hearts to turn & be healed

Abba, where my mind is blinded and I cannot see
Adjust my vision
Where my heart cannot enter in
Remove the veil

Your people Israel are Your firstborn
Yet for many years, decades, centuries
We’ve not seen nor understood

How is this, that our minds are blinded and our hearts are not free?
How is this, that we say we want Your heart yet we don’t love our elder brother?
How is it, that blindness of mind and hardness of heart
still prevail?
And we cannot see Your Word clearly at times

Abba, why is it so hard to believe You love us outside of our works?
Why are we so prone to desire being right rather than being righteous?
Abba, we need the cleansing from iniquity and the washing of the Word and the Spirit

We’ve missed so much of what You said about Israel
In our own self-righteousness
Thinking we were better
Yet Abba, we’re not
We need Your mercy
Like Israel needs Your mercy

Please come and adjust our minds, our hearts, our understanding
That eyes to see, ears to hear and hearts to turn and be healed,
To love our brother Israel
We would have

That in turn
We would ache for this for Israel
Abba, give Your beloved Israel eyes to see, ears to hear, hearts to turn to You and be healed
Let this be our desire

For Day 13 the labor of His soul go to
For Day 14 His love is enough go to
For Day 15 LIFE for Israel go to

change our hearts

Only You can change the heart of man
Only You can change me from the inside out
Only You can make me holy
Only You can visit and bring me life

Abba, this is my authentic cry
Please come speak to those who call on Your name
Abba, make a way for Your people
Help us to enter in
To that which is close to Your heart
Let us enter in to the groanings and longings
On Your heart today

We need You
We desperately do
We need You
We need You
We need You
Please come and visit us
Please come and show us who You really are
We need Your heart
We desire that You give us Your heart
Show us Your deep love for Your people Israel
to whom was give sonship, the Torah, temple service,

Abba, Awaken our hearts and draw us into Yours
We want to live out Your love for Your people
Give us Your heart, Your holy living desire
For this one You long for

I’m veering off course today because it is Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement (Leviticus 16). The Jewish community in every place goes through prayers of repentance asking for forgiveness and atonement on this day every year. I am sharing a prayer of repentance and hope it will resonate and draw you nearer to G-d.

Forgive me for not trusting You
Forgive me for not coming to You on the basis of who You are
Forgive me for not obeying You
Forgive me for not getting up early to hear Your word
Forgive me for running about and busyness
Forgive me for not searching my heart and not searching Your word
but rather searching other’s words to satisfy my soul
Forgive me for doing the very thing I see as weakness and sin in others
Forgive me for trusting in my own ways instead of trusting in You
Forgive me Father, Forgive me Abba

Cleanse me from all unrighteousness, O God
Forgive me for aching for Your Kingdom without living it
Abba, please bridge this gap
Between my holy longing and Your great desire

Forgive me for pleasing myself instead of pleasing You
Forgive me for hatred in my heart and walking in the flesh
Instead of walking in the Spirit from whom I have life

May You find forgiveness and be written in the Book of Life today.
