Abba’s Arms

Abba’s Arms

Little girl woke up with a question on her heart. Little girl often had questions but it was a bit unusual for her to wake up with a question this deep.

“Do you promise, Abba? Do you promise?”

The question kept running around in little girl’s heart and mind upon waking and as she got out of bed. Little girl couldn’t wait to run straight to Abba to tell him about her question. She jumped out of bed and ran to the place Abba sat and waited for her every morning.

“Abba!” little girl said almost breathless, “Do you promise? Abba, do you promise? I can’t quit thinking about it, Abba.”

“Good morning, sweet girl. Come and sit in my lap,” he said as he picked her up and set her in the place on his lap she had found to be the safest and most wonderful place in the whole world.

Once little girl was on his lap, the question faded from her mind. She laid her head on his chest and let her heart be stilled.

“Little girl, I love you so. Forever and ever I’ll love you! I’ve loved you since before you were born. What was your question, my beautiful girl?”

Little girl turned to look up at Abba as he spoke these words that were full of life for little girl’s heart. Upon seeing Abba’s eyes that held eternity inside of them, little girl turned back around and just let herself be held in Abba’s arms where the promise made itself known.

Rest

“Little girl,” Abba’s voice got little girl’s attention.

“Yes, Abba,” she answered, a little bit distracted.

“You seem concerned about something. What is it?” Abba investigated the unsettledness He could see in little girl’s countenance.

Little girl looked up into those deep dark brown gentle eyes that seemed like they held the ocean and the mountains and little girl’s past and future in them. In that moment, tears began to well up and slowly fall down her cheeks one by one by one. She realized who He was and how much bigger He was than anything else.

Abba picked her up and held her as all of her fears, concerns and difficulties that had been holding her attention slowly faded and fell away one by one by one.

Day 31: Almost

Abba held little girl as she thought about all he had done for her. The love Abba had shown her had changed everything for her. Despite her sadness at times, deep down she was filled with a joy beyond expression. She was so excited to be his.

Little girl turned and looked at Abba with a question she already knew the answer to. “Do I get to stay here forever with you? Can I sit in your lap whenever I get scared?”

“Of course. You are my child now and that will never change. You can stay with me forever and you can sit in my lap anytime you want to. I love it when you run to me and sit with me. Don’t ever think you’re too old to come to me. I’m your Abba. Come to me anytime. I always want you near me,” replied Abba with zeal in his heart for little girl.

Tears streamed down little girl’s face as he spoke these words with the tender affection that only a father knows for his children.

Abba held her close, knowing all of her fears and the difficulties she had been through. He knew her completely and loved her wholly. He wiped her tears as she sat with him, feeling the love she had longed for all of her life.

Day 11: Rest

Little girl had experienced such an exciting day. She was very tired and was ready to rest.

Little girl had often had a difficult time going to sleep before she had come to Abba’s because thoughts would spin around in her head and she would be afraid. This had become a difficulty in the daytime as well.

Little girl would worry about where she was staying and if they would keep her, or if she would have to move again. She had always wondered if she would ever have a family.

Little girl became more and more tired as thoughts raced through her head. Abba could see her fears coming to the surface and he knelt down beside her and took her hand in his. She turned to him, having forgotten for a moment where she was.

Abba turned her face towards him and said to her, “Little girl, you’re my daughter now and you’re a part of my family. Always remember that you’re mine and that I will take care of you.”

Abba’s voice quelled all of her fears and little girl’s face beamed with joy. Her round cheeks became a rosy hue and her eyes lit up as she looked at him. Her heart soared as she thought about Abba and all he had done for her.

Day 4: Embrace

Little girl had fallen fast asleep in Abba’s embrace. She had such a wonderful dream about the family she finally got to be a part of and Abba and following him around everywhere.

She had loved the dream so much that when she began to wake up she wasn’t sure if she wanted to wake up. She wondered for a moment if everything that she remembered had actually happened. As the question passed through her mind, she felt Abba’s embrace. She knew it was all real because she was still sitting in Abba’s lap.

She was sitting in Abba’s lap and she knew it was safest place in the whole world.

She was so excited to look at him and talk to him, but she waited and pretended to be asleep because she never wanted to leave Abba’s embrace. Abba knew she was pretending but waited patiently. He knew she hadn’t felt rested and safe in a long, long time.

Abba was in no hurry. He loved to care for this little one. He loved to care for all of his kids.
