Loved

Haven

“Abba, can I just sit with you for awhile today?” Little girl said, standing right beside Abba’s chair. The look in little girl’s face was uneasy and almost distant as she waited to hear his response.

“Of course you can. You know you’re always welcome to sit with me, always welcome!” Abba said as he motioned her to jump up on his lap. “Why are you sad today, little girl?”

“I’m not sad, I mean, I’m just thinking about some things,” little girl almost stuttered through the words. Little girl had learned that Abba would always receive her, not begrudgingly out of duty but rather because he wanted to. She also knew he loved her a lot.

Despite what she had come to understand, little girl was afraid to share her heart with Abba today. She was nervous that he would not continue loving her because she still felt so insecure. She wondered if he would tire of her brokenness the way many before him had tired of her.

“Little girl, I’m not like them. I’m not like all the others. I’m not angry with you or sick of you because your heart hurts. I love you exactly the way you are today. You are not too much, my sweet girl, you are not too much. I love you beyond your comprehension and my love doesn’t wane.”

Abba held little girl tight as the tears of joy and sadness mixed together rolled down her face.

Abba picked little girl up and spun her around. Little girl loved being spun around by Abba. Abba was so happy today. Abba loved little girl so much and was so glad that she was his.

“Little girl, do you have any idea how much I love you?!” Abba exclaimed. “It’s wonderful having you in the family! You will always be my daughter.”

Little girl’s heart drank these words in as if they were water quenching a deep thirst on a very hot day. As she received his words and his affection, her heart came alive afresh.

Abba’s words were so much more than just words. His words were like power and life and love and joy and so many good and wonderful things. Abba’s words sunk deep inside little girl’s being. She basked in his words and just being with him. Little girl was so glad to be Abba’s daughter.

Little Girl’s (& all of our) Journey – Why in the world does he love me like this?

about
Encountering Abba’s Heart

Little girl really enjoyed Abba. She enjoyed being with him, going on adventures with him and simply hearing the sound of his voice every day. Little girl couldn’t be happier.

Abba had adopted little girl some time ago and she was so surprised at how much he loved her. She didn’t quite know what to do with it some days. She wasn’t used to the kindness of a father. Her experiences with fathers in the past had mostly brought disappoint and fear.

Little girl hadn’t experienced love like Abba’s love before. It was as if little girl didn’t have to do anything to make Abba love her. He just loved her because she was his little girl. She had always hoped for this but she sometimes wondered if it was real.

Little girl had been told she needed to be good and then she would be accepted and adopted. She always tried to be good but she went years without being adopted, until Abba came and got her.

Little girl wondered if she needed to try to be perfect in order for Abba to continue to love her and keep her.

All of these things were rolling around in her heart. “Little girl, did you know that I love you just because you were born? Did you know you can’t do anything to make me love you more, and you can’t do anything to make me love you less?”

Abba’s words startled little girl. It was as if Abba knew what she was thinking and she wondered if that was okay. Her surprise showed on her face.

“Little girl, you’re a wonderful daughter. Did you know that? I love who you are and who you will become. I just love to be with you every day and watch you learn and grow. You are a delight to my heart and I love you because I love you!”

Just as little girl had been surprised a moment ago, she was caught off guard again by Abba’s words. She began to think about his words and what they meant for her but then she couldn’t help herself. It was as if the words Abba had just spoken took on a life of their own and hit her like a wave and submerged her in the beauty of his love. A huge smile enveloped little girl’s face. She couldn’t contain her joy. She leaned back on Abba’s chest, closed her eyes and just received his wonderful love for her.

A Father’s Love

Writings
about
Encountering Abba’s Heart

Little girl was so excited for another day with Abba. She woke up anticipating what they would do and what Abba would teach her today.

Little girl learned new things each and every day from Abba. Most of all she learned how much Abba cared for her and wanted her around just to be with him.

Little girl was learning what a real father’s love was like. Little girl’s experience with fathers and those who took care of her had been inconsistent at best. Now little girl was learning something different. She was learning something that was changing her deep within.

Little girl ran and sat in Abba’s lap. She was thankful to be with her father.
