Abba’s Arms

Abba’s Arms

Little girl woke up with a question on her heart. Little girl often had questions but it was a bit unusual for her to wake up with a question this deep.

“Do you promise, Abba? Do you promise?”

The question kept running around in little girl’s heart and mind upon waking and as she got out of bed. Little girl couldn’t wait to run straight to Abba to tell him about her question. She jumped out of bed and ran to the place Abba sat and waited for her every morning.

“Abba!” little girl said almost breathless, “Do you promise? Abba, do you promise? I can’t quit thinking about it, Abba.”

“Good morning, sweet girl. Come and sit in my lap,” he said as he picked her up and set her in the place on his lap she had found to be the safest and most wonderful place in the whole world.

Once little girl was on his lap, the question faded from her mind. She laid her head on his chest and let her heart be stilled.

“Little girl, I love you so. Forever and ever I’ll love you! I’ve loved you since before you were born. What was your question, my beautiful girl?”

Little girl turned to look up at Abba as he spoke these words that were full of life for little girl’s heart. Upon seeing Abba’s eyes that held eternity inside of them, little girl turned back around and just let herself be held in Abba’s arms where the promise made itself known.

Love’s Safety

IMG_5652

Little girl was growing up fast. Her time with Abba had marked and changed her heart and her life forever. Abba had loved her in such a profound way. She had always hoped and dreamed this kind of love was available. Her years of life before she came to Abba’s house and was adopted by him had nearly eroded her deep hope of finding acceptance and unconditional love.

Little girl had grown and changed so much in her years with Abba. She was so thankful for him and for his hand of kindness in her life.

Little girl was about to embark on a new challenge with Abba. He had called her to run upon the hills with him, to leave the comfort of just being with him and to go on a new adventure. She trusted Abba but she wondered what it would be like.

Little girl wondered and thought about her next adventure. She got worried and concerned, sad and afraid. The fears and the challenges of the next step in her journey with Abba began to overwhelm her. And sometimes she forgot she was going with Abba. She thought she would be on her own again.

Abba saw little girl sitting on the ground, her head down with a downcast look on her face. He stooped down right next to her and sat on the ground beside her. He lifted her chin, looked in her eyes and spoke straight into her soul. “Little girl, remember, we’re going on this journey together. Don’t forget that I’m the one who asked you to go and I will never leave you alone.”

Tears came to little girl’s eyes as she realized she had almost forgotten that Abba had invited her on this journey and that he was with her and would be with her every step of the way. Little girl jumped up and got in Abba’s lap. She leaned back, closed her eyes and breathed deep again.

“I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.” Psalm 12

A Heart Overflowing

Bug 2 - Version 2

Little girl looked up at Abba and her heart was filled with joy. Her smile went from ear to ear and no one could take this away from her. Her heart overflowed with thankfulness for Abba.

Abba picked little girl up and held her tight. He loved little girl beyond words and beyond measure. He loved how little girl had begun to trust him. Abba knew all of little girl’s ways, he knew the life she had come from and he was so proud of her for letting herself trust him.

Abba and little girl were quite a pair. She had overcome so much just to be with him, in a safe place. He knew this. He had adopted many children before and he knew their difficulties and fears, their struggles and challenges to feel safe and to know they belonged.

Little girl finally knew where she belonged.

Season

father-and-child - Version 2

Little girl and Abba took a walk to the edge of the sea not so far from home. Little girl had seen the sea once in the distance from Abba’s house. You couldn’t really see it unless you looked for it.

Little girl loved the water and was excited it was so near. At the same time, she was a bit afraid of it as well. The waves and water were amazing but overwhelming at times.

“Little girl, do you see that hill over there? The best view of the sea is from the top of that hill,” Abba said as he pointed towards the gorgeous cliff overlooking the sea.

Little girl looked and saw exactly what Abba was talking about. She looked at the cliff and then looked away and buried her face in Abba’s pants. She loved the idea of that beautiful lookout but she was desperately afraid of it at the same time.

Little girl knew this was the beginning of a new season for her. She would face her fears in a way she hadn’t quite done before. This time Abba would be right beside her. She knew she could do it because she knew Abba would help her every step of the way.
