Love’s Safety

IMG_5652

Little girl was growing up fast. Her time with Abba had marked and changed her heart and her life forever. Abba had loved her in such a profound way. She had always hoped and dreamed this kind of love was available. Her years of life before she came to Abba’s house and was adopted by him had nearly eroded her deep hope of finding acceptance and unconditional love.

Little girl had grown and changed so much in her years with Abba. She was so thankful for him and for his hand of kindness in her life.

Little girl was about to embark on a new challenge with Abba. He had called her to run upon the hills with him, to leave the comfort of just being with him and to go on a new adventure. She trusted Abba but she wondered what it would be like.

Little girl wondered and thought about her next adventure. She got worried and concerned, sad and afraid. The fears and the challenges of the next step in her journey with Abba began to overwhelm her. And sometimes she forgot she was going with Abba. She thought she would be on her own again.

Abba saw little girl sitting on the ground, her head down with a downcast look on her face. He stooped down right next to her and sat on the ground beside her. He lifted her chin, looked in her eyes and spoke straight into her soul. “Little girl, remember, we’re going on this journey together. Don’t forget that I’m the one who asked you to go and I will never leave you alone.”

Tears came to little girl’s eyes as she realized she had almost forgotten that Abba had invited her on this journey and that he was with her and would be with her every step of the way. Little girl jumped up and got in Abba’s lap. She leaned back, closed her eyes and breathed deep again.

“I will set him in the safety for which he yearns.” Psalm 12

Dancing to Abba’s Song

Little girl woke up extra early that Friday morning. She jumped out of bed and almost ran right for the chair where Abba sat every morning waiting for her to come and sit in his lap.

Before she ran to join him, she heard a beautiful sound she didn’t quite recognize at first. She stopped to wait and listen. Then she recognized what she was hearing and she was moved.

The beautiful sound was Abba’s voice as he sang a song of love. But it wasn’t just any song of love. It was a song of love he was singing about little girl. As he sang about how much he loved her, she thought her heart had skipped a beat. She was so full of joy she wanted to cry. She simply couldn’t contain everything she felt.

As she heard Abba’s voice, she jumped up and down and twirled around and danced a dance expressing the joy of being Abba’s child. Once again, little girl was overwhelmed with gratitude at all Abba had done for her.

Day 31: Almost

Abba held little girl as she thought about all he had done for her. The love Abba had shown her had changed everything for her. Despite her sadness at times, deep down she was filled with a joy beyond expression. She was so excited to be his.

Little girl turned and looked at Abba with a question she already knew the answer to. “Do I get to stay here forever with you? Can I sit in your lap whenever I get scared?”

“Of course. You are my child now and that will never change. You can stay with me forever and you can sit in my lap anytime you want to. I love it when you run to me and sit with me. Don’t ever think you’re too old to come to me. I’m your Abba. Come to me anytime. I always want you near me,” replied Abba with zeal in his heart for little girl.

Tears streamed down little girl’s face as he spoke these words with the tender affection that only a father knows for his children.

Abba held her close, knowing all of her fears and the difficulties she had been through. He knew her completely and loved her wholly. He wiped her tears as she sat with him, feeling the love she had longed for all of her life.

Day 28: Hope

Little girl felt so much joy. She anticipated every new day and was excited about every new adventure. She loved every little bit of time she got to be with Abba. She couldn’t believe how everything had changed.

Little girl woke up every morning thinking of what the day had to offer. She went to bed happy and thankful for each and every day.

Little girl began to sense something she had almost lost in the ups and downs of gaining and losing fathers and mothers, sisters and brothers. Little girl began to feel hope again. Her time with Abba began to bear the fruit of hope in her heart again.

Little girl had naturally hoped and anticipated good things for much of her short life, yet her hope had slowly been stolen away with the losses she had suffered.

Today and throughout this season with Abba, her hope began to be restored.

Day 25: Crash

Little girl remembered her life before Abba. Some days she almost forgot it but then she remembered again. Sometimes she struggled with her past experiences and believing things were different now that she was safe with Abba.

Abba knew this and spoke life into little girl’s heart. He knew that she would be able to believe him completely and trust him wholeheartedly in time. He wasn’t impatient with her when she got caught in the fears of the past.

Abba was full of love for little girl and he knew her at the deepest places. Despite her short life, she had experienced much difficulty in those few years. She had learned some things about love and life and people that would take some time to unlearn. Abba was patient with her.

As little girl sat on Abba’s lap he held her and spoke words of love and affection to her. He knew she would fully believe these words one day soon but he was not upset in the least with the process.

Abba’s Big Love

Day 13: Patience

Little girl awoke early and ran down the stairs to find Abba and the rest of the family. She found Abba sitting in his chair where he often sat in the mornings. He was looking out the window at the grassy hills and the trees that had grown steadily over the years.

Abba turned to little girl, his eyes filled with joy, as she approached him. His face radiated with love as she jumped into his lap, as was her normal morning routine.

Little girl would sit on Abba’s lap for what felt like hours to her but it was only a couple of minutes before she would begin to ask questions and talk to him about her dreams or what she wanted to do that day. It was like clockwork and Abba felt great delight every morning as she approached him and talked to him and asked what he thought about the many things on her mind.

Little girl was overjoyed with this life Abba had given her. Even at the tender age of five, she knew it was a beautiful gift to her. She was so thankful for all he had done for her and all he had given to her.

Little girl felt such a depth of love in her heart that she’d never experienced before she met Abba. She’d always believed there was more than what she had known and experienced. She couldn’t imagine what was next and what was to come.

Safety in the Storm

Abba, I Belong to You Safety

Encountering Abba’s Heart

Day 12: Storm

Little girl woke up to the sound of pelting rain and thunder booming in the distance. She was thrilled yet somewhat frightened at the storm outside. She always got excited when she saw the storm clouds and heard the thunder. When the wind began to pick up and the lightning and thunder came closer, she would want to hide.

In the children’s home where she had lived for six months, most of the other children would cry during the storms and no one would comfort them. She felt very sad as she thought about this. She felt sad for the other little children who hadn’t been able to come to Abba’s house. She felt sad that they didn’t have moms or dads who would take care of them.

Little girl became a little overwhelmed by these thoughts. Abba came to check on her. She was very glad Abba had come. He sat beside her bed and she jumped into his lap as a tumultuous clap of thunder reverberated in little girl’s ears. He held her and she felt safe.

When the storm quieted, she told Abba about the other little children. Abba listened intently to little girl as she shared. Abba told little girl that he was glad she had talked to him about this and that he was going to care for these little children too.

Little girl felt so much better that Abba was going to care for her little friends. Little girl fell fast asleep in Abba’s arms and he tucked her back in her bed as the storm quieted.
